ELKHART, Ind. (October 20, 2023) – Surf Internet℠ is proud to announce the next phase in bringing fiber-optic internet to the residents of Gas City, Ind. Following the successful connection of local schools to Surf’s high-speed internet, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday, October 13, celebrating the start of construction to extend fiber-optic internet to households and businesses throughout the city.

Surf is investing over $3 million of its own capital to expand its fiber network to 2,600 addresses in Gas City between now and next summer. Roughly 300 addresses will be connected in October and ready for service, with speeds of up to 1 gig. The venture is an extension of the work already done to provide over 2,400 students at Mississinewa Community School Corporation schools with access to Surf’s high-speed fiber internet. Surf plans to expand construction into Jonesboro next, bridging the Mississinewa River with fiber-optic infrastructure as part of their continued investment in the region.

“We were proud to prioritize students, granting them access to cutting-edge fiber-optic technology within their schools,” said Surf CEO Gene Crusie. “Now, we are furthering our commitment to Gas City and Jonesboro by expanding our network to households and businesses, offering them greater choice in providers and access to blazing fast internet.”

Construction for all phases of the project is slated for completion by the summer of 2024. Once complete, the fiber infrastructure will allow Surf to introduce multi-gig speeds in the future, giving residents even faster options to suit their connectivity needs.

“High-speed internet is a must in today’s digital world,” said Gas City Mayor Bill Rock, Jr. “It’s imperative that our residents have increased options for internet service providers, and most importantly, access to high-speed offerings. We’re proud to collaborate with Surf Internet to provide Gas City residents with the advanced technology they need to thrive at school, at work, and at home.”

The work in Gas City is part of Surf’s overall commitment to build an advanced fiber-optic network serving rural communities across the Great Lakes Region of Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. Updates on construction are available on the company’s website at https://construction.surfinternet.com/.
