ELKHART, Ind. – Surf InternetSM celebrated with the Town of Bourbon, Indiana, as the month of August brought both fiber-optic internet service and a newly renovated sports center.
At a June 2021 press conference, Surf announced plans to begin work on a three-phase fiber-optic internet installation project in the Town of Bourbon. The highly-anticipated project had been six to seven years in the making. At the close of the press conference, Surf also presented town officials with a pacesetter donation towards a planned renovation of Bourbon Community Park.
Bourbon Town Council President Ward Byres said at the time, “This partnership is vital to Bourbon’s future. It puts Bourbon on the map where Bourbon has never been on the map before. The message we want to send out to the community, Marshall County, and the State of Indiana, is that Bourbon is now open for business. Come to Bourbon; we want you here!”
As both projects reached completion this month, town officials and the community gathered together in celebration. At the August 9 Town Council meeting, Surf CEO Gene Crusie presented the Council with a hand-crafted memento. The lucite pyramid displays a suspended piece of fiber-optic cable used in the project and signifies Bourbon officially becoming a “Gig City.” During the presentation Crusie said, “On behalf of the Surf team, we are honored to be a small part of the story of Bourbon, Indiana, which has transformed its vibrant community through strong schools, visionary leadership, hometown values, outstanding amenities such as the sports center, and now best-in-class fiber-optic internet!”
Crusie was also on hand for a ribbon cutting held on August 25 to commemorate the newly renovated sports center at Bourbon Community Park. Improvements included new asphalt, stands, basketball hoops, fencing, and a pickleball court. “In life, work and play are equally important!” Crusie commented after the ceremony. “Surf is proud to have been a part of making both of those aspects a little better for the people and businesses of Bourbon, through high-speed fiber internet and an amazing new place to have fun.”
To date, nearly 30 percent of Bourbon’s residents have signed up for fiber internet services, highlighting the demand that existed. To see if Surf Internet services are currently available for a specific address, visit https://surfinternet.com/ and click the “Check Availability” button.
