City of Howell Welcomes Surf Internet, Expanded High-Speed Fiber Internet Access

HOWELL, Mich. (August 22, 2023) – The City of Howell, Mich., officially welcomed Surf Internet℠ to the community with a ribbon cutting ceremony held Friday, August 18. Residents and small businesses throughout Howell will now have access to Surf’s high-speed fiber-optic internet service, made possible, in part, by the company’s acquisition of MiSignal fiber network assets last month.

“This is a tremendous occasion as we launch our partnership with this great community,” said Surf CEO Gene Crusie. “High-speed internet is an important catalyst in the transformation of cities like Howell. At Surf, we aspire to be a partner in that transformation, not simply a service provider, and are continuing the great work of MiSignal in being an integral part of this community.”

Riding the wave of excitement. Surf Internet cuts the ribbon on expanded fiber-optic internet services for the town of Howell, Mich., alongside Howell Mayor Robert Ellis, Chamber of Commerce representatives, and Field Representative Katy Michalski on behalf of U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin.

To demonstrate their commitment to Howell, Surf participated in and sponsored the Howell Melon Festival which was held downtown August 18-20. Company representatives were on hand Saturday and Sunday as part of the Vendor Fair, answering questions, engaging with community members, and signing residents up for internet service.

“On behalf of the City of Howell, I’m very happy to welcome Surf Internet to our community,” said Mayor Bob Ellis. “They will expand high-speed fiber internet throughout the county, enhancing our quality of life and helping in our efforts to attract new residents and businesses to the area.”

Surf was recently awarded a $250,000 grant from nearby Genoa Township for work in Livingston County, where Howell is also located. Those dollars will be combined with Surf’s own private investment, as well as other pending grant applications with the State of Michigan, to further expand internet access in underserved areas throughout the county.

The work in Howell and Livingston County is part of Surf’s overall commitment to build an advanced fiber-optic network serving communities of all sizes across the Great Lakes Region of Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois.
