Surf Internet Celebrates City of Oglesby, Illinois for Becoming Surf’s First Multi-Gig City in the State

Representatives from Surf, Oglesby Mayor Jason Curran, elected officials, members of the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Robert Meredith, Oglesby’s first 2 gig customer cut the ribbon on September 5 to mark the arrival of multi-gig internet services to the City of Oglesby, Ill.

COAL CITY, Ill. –  Surf Internet℠ has successfully deployed multi-gig fiber-optic internet services to over 2,000 homes in the City of Oglesby, Ill., making it Surf’s first multi-gig city in Illinois. Surf celebrated this extraordinary milestone with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, September 5 at the residence of Oglesby’s first 2 gig customer, the Meredith family.

As a token of appreciation for Oglesby’s support and collaboration, Surf Internet presented the City with a commemorative plaque, acknowledging their status as Surf’s inaugural multi-gig city in Illinois. In return, Mayor Curran gave the Meredith family the City’s own plaque, for having the “fastest internet in the Illinois Valley” and being the first to be connected to Surf Internet’s multi-gig service. The Meredith family is among the first wave of recipients, totaling 2,021 addresses, to benefit from Surf Internet’s lightning-fast connectivity. This groundbreaking project was fully funded through Surf’s own capital investment, which amounted to approximately $2.5 million.

“This moment is a unique turning point for both the City of Oglesby and Surf Internet,” said Surf CEO Gene Crusie. “At the same time that Oglesby welcomes a high-speed pipeline of economic opportunity and increased quality of life, Surf celebrates a partnership that has resulted in the first multi-gig city in our Illinois network. This couldn’t have been done without the vision and leadership of the Mayor, the City, and this great community.”

“Surf internet connection has  allowed me and my family to stream high-definition videos, engage in seamless video conferencing, and play online games without any lag or interruptions,” said Robert Meredith, a member of the first family to receive 2 gig internet in Oglesby. “I appreciate having the flexibility to access the internet on multiple devices simultaneously, ensuring that all my connected gadgets function smoothly without any bottlenecks. Thank you Surf Internet and the City of Oglesby for making this happen!”

Customers who subscribe to a 2 Gig plan will experience a noticeable increase in symmetrical speeds for even faster upload and download of data. This is especially important for consistent performance when using an internet connection across multiple devices for e-learning, video conferencing, work-from-home, gaming, entertainment, and so much more.

The work in Oglesby is part of Surf’s overall commitment to build an advanced fiber-optic network serving communities of all sizes across the Great Lakes Region of Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois.
